Algeria has undertaken some political reforms since 2011, most notably a constitutional revision in 2016. But what kind of impact did the amendments of 102 out of 218 articles have on democratic representation and the electoral framework? Some improvements have been made, such as the establishment of an independent election monitoring commission. However, quite many challenges remain, including the lack of an independent election management body in charge of the whole process and weak guarantees for electoral observation. These are the conclusions of DRI’s Briefing Paper.
