Report: Assessment of the Electoral Framework of Jordan

While previous elections in Jordan have been run efficiently, the 2007 parliamentary elections will use a temporary legal framework that falls short of some international standards for democratic elections, most notably by not guaranteeing the universal principle of equality of suffrage amongst voters. Systematic reform of the electoral framework is needed ahead of the next electoral cycle in 2011 as part of Jordan’s commitments towards achieving political reform and democratisation.
