Democracy Reporting International is launching the Myanmar Democracy Fellowship (MDF), a 10-month certificate programme for Civil Society Organisations dedicated to furthering democratic reform in Myanmar. The MDF is a joint programme co-organised with Charity Oriented Myanmar (COM).
The MDF takes fellows through a total of four training modules focused on comparative constitutional and electoral law, human rights and democratic reform advocacy.
The modules of the MDF, each of which is five days in duration, are structured as follows:
- Module one: Introduction to International Human Rights Law and & Constitutional reform processes (23-27 September 2016)
- Module two: Democratic States: Separation of Powers (1-5 December 2016)
- Module three: State Structure: Decentralization, Elements of Federalism and Local Governance (17-21 February 2017)
- Module four: Accountability: Genuine Elections and political participation (31 March-4 April 2017)
This is a unique opportunity for Myanmar CSOs to gain essential skills and knowledge from experts, and to expand their networks and opportunities for cooperation. The MDF is geared towards developing CSOs’ capacities in the key areas listed above, so that they are better able to contribute towards Myanmar’s democratic reform process.
Prospective follow must be able to commit to the entirety of the programme, with the MDF designed as a progressive curriculum for selected CSO representatives.
A total of 20 fellows from every state and region of Myanmar will be selected through a competitive applications process. The deadline for MDF applications is July 15th 2016.
