Finals of DRI’s debate competition in Ukraine (map)

Seventeen rounds of debates, eight cities, five teams in the finals and one winner – this was the debate competition “Constitution – on the road to change” organised by DRI from October 2016 to May 2017.

The diverse issues addressed included judicial reform, constitutional changes, monopoly of the bar, the functioning of the Central Electoral Commission and much more. The topics not only increased students’ knowledge, but also challenged their perception of the status quo and gave them the chance to brainstorm alternative solutions for the future of Ukraine.

The finals were not easy to judge. Competing teams had to demonstrate the acquired knowledge through a brain-ring competition on political reforms. But, theoretical knowledge was not enough; the teams also had to propose legislative reforms to the political system in a simulated parliamentary session. Each mock session was followed by a press briefing from each ‘party’.

Team ELSA Lviv was announced as the winner, scoring the highest number of points over three rounds!
